Campione is a small Italian enclave with the area of 1.7 km² with approximately 3.000 inhabitants, of which a third are foreigners, situated on Swiss territory, in the south region of the Canton Ticino. Between Campione and the Italian border there are 18 Km towards the south in direction to Chiasso, and only 7 Km from Lugano. It has a Swiss customs regime and stamps. The money currency is not the €, but the Swiss franc even if in the stores you can pay in European currency instead of the franc. There use Swiss telephone companies, the number plates of the automobiles are of the Canton Ticino but the electricity is coming from Italy and has to be paid in Swiss francs. Campione d'Italia is famous for its casino closed for bankruptcy in July 2018 and currently still closed.
