Kincardine to Culross, Central Scotland

Kincardine to Culross

As the crow flies, Kincardine to Culross is only 7kms. Instead, I took the scenic route!  The video starts by taking the cycling-friendly road into the small town of Clackmannan before joining up with National Cycle Route (NCR) 764. I always think the road into Clackmannan, especially on a sunny day, reminds me of somewhere in France with its church on the hill and a line of poplar trees leading up to it.

NCR 764 is built on an old railway line which we follow for a couple of kilometres before turning off onto the main A977 road. It's a wide main road that unfortunately encourages some fast driving. I hate this bit of scary road but we only have to travel it for a few kilometres before turning off at the tiny village of Forestmill. From there we travel through some gorgeous countryside, made even better by the rare sunny day, before reaching the lovely village of Saline. Ahead of and above are the hills of Saline, Bandrum and  Knockhill but we turn off South to head back to Culross through the villages of Oakley, Torryburn and Low Valleyfield (yes there is a High Valleyfield too!).

The whole route is reasonably flat with only a couple of short inclines. From Saline back to Culross is mostly downhill with some reasonably fast sections.
