La Conner, WA. - Kikutali Preserve State Park

The preserve is owned and managed jointly by the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community and Washington State Parks. Located within the Swinomish Indian Reservation.

There are 2 miles of trails. But before you reach the island, from the parking area you walk the gravel Kiket Trail as it crosses a tombolo (a sand spit connecting an island to the mainland) to Kiket Island. A short distance inside the island, you have three trail choices.   This covers all 3 trails starting with the south trail to the end and coming back on the north trail and then end up on the center trail.   Each trail has its own unique feel with a short excursion onto the driftwood lined beach before heading back to the parking lot start point.

Center trail: a gravel roadway across the island, the center trail has moderate elevation gain and loss, and is the most direct route to the west end of the island.

North trail: a peaceful forest trail through old-growth, the North trail gains the most elevation, takes a little longer to walk, and offers interesting views at the west end.

South trail: the easiest of the trails, the south trail avoids most of the elevation gain as it wanders through broad-leafed trees along the south side.

Video recorded at a fast walking pace but looks good at the speed of a runner (6 - 8 mph)
