Tremola - From Airolo to the Gotthard Pass

The ancient road of the Tremola is a marvel. This serpentine cobbles, with its 24 hairpin bends, joins Airolo to the Gotthard Pass.

In most spectacular twists and turns the Tremola steps you, in just four kilometers, to an altitude difference of 300 meters. This work is part of the first carriage road through the Gotthard and was built between 1828 and 1832 by the engineer from Ticino Francesco Moschini. Before there was only a mule track. For a cyclist the Tremola is the Paris-Roubaix of the Alps.

This bike ride was done with an Haibike Sduro Trekking 4, an eBike weighing 27 kg and with a power of 250W. She was loaded with a weight of 3 kg of food, change of clothes, and so on. The total weight was therefore 30 kg. Of the four pedal assist levels, the second level has been inserted all the time. This force compensated the considerable weight to be moved. The pedaling force, from my point of view with this situation, corresponded to that with a racing bike weighing ten kilos.
