A current in the lake? Well, in this case the current was strong enough to get me panic a bit at the key point - a confluence of streams Stržen and Cerkniščica. I could have easily continued upstream into Cerkniščica, but, being alone and not having inspected the place before paddling... Well, what is not seen in the video is a small water step on my left, where the water of both streams continues flowing towards a sink hole Mala Karlovica! You do not want to play with your luck there, so as soon as I heard a slight "waterfall sound" and saw the water step producing it, this meant: Retreat! (Hey home rowers, do what I did at that moment - full power!)
Lake Cerknica (altitude: ~548m) (Slovene: Cerkniško jezero; German: Zirknitzer See; oft attributed as Magic lake, or Mystic lake) is - according to a Slovene tourist organization booklet - the European largest intermittent lake, area wise. You have to "catch" it while it is there, since most of the time there is not much more then fields to be seen. Read an in depth history of the Lake Cerknica...
This is the second one of my three Lake Cerknica paddle videos, taken on 2023-06-01 (=June 1st, 2023), as the water level was at the 333cm mark. More information for potential paddlers in the "real world" can be found in description of my first paddle video on this lake: "Cerknica Lake 🛶 Lilies". In the third paddle video here, I inspect the "Underworld Gates".
Here is my walking video at the same lake: "Cerknica Lake 🚶 Sunrise"
More special places will follow... By foot, by bike and by kayak. Stay tuned...
