Ditchling Beacon in East Sussex, England has an average gradient of 9.4% over a 1.46 km climb with an elevation gain of 139 m. However, some say the average gradient is closer to 9.7% and that the climb can feel longer than it is. The steepest parts of the climb can reach up to 15% or 16%.
Ditchling Beacon is a popular climb for cyclists, and is often included in the London–Brighton Bike Ride. It's also the third-highest point in the South Downs and was featured in the 1994 Tour de France and the 2014 Tour of Britain
