The Col de Joux (1640 m) is a wooded pass that connects Saint-Vincent with the municipality of Brusson, and therefore represents a suggestive alternative route, compared to the road that climbs from Verrès, to reach Val d’Ayas.
The route skirts characteristic hamlets and crosses woods full of charm, offering exceptional views of the central valley and Val d’Ayas.
The word Joux is to be connected to a prelatin word which means wooded hill, but in other cases it can be traced back to the Latin Jugum, yoke, and therefore hill.
The Col de Joux is also home to the last stretch of the Ru Courtod, an irrigation canal coming from the Ventina glacier and dating back to the fourteenth century.
Various hiking trails of varying difficulty start from the hill, for example towards Testa Comagna or Colle Tzecore, but you can also pleasantly stroll along the flat farm road, directed to Sommarèse, or towards the hamlet of Pallu (or Palud), with its small lake. artificial, bars, restaurants and other services.
