Travel from Cromwell along the banks of Lake Dunstan. This is a man made lake used for hydro electrity. From the head of the lake start gradually climbing towards the Lindas Pass. This gets a litte steeper as you near the top, Lindis Pass | Wanaka, New Zealand (newzealand.com). Lindas Pass is a 971m crossiing a low moutain range that provides the boundary between Otago and Canterbury. After crossing the pass it is a down hill run towards Omaramau.
