Military heritage 05: Fort Bornem part 2

The Fort of Bornem is part of the outer fortifications around Antwerp. Construction began in 1906, and it’s the only fort with an irregular quadrilateral shape due to its position relative to the Scheldt River1. This concrete armored fort features artillery under domes, including 15 cm cannons, a 12 cm howitzer, and 7.5 cm and 5.7 cm cannons for close defense. It played a crucial role during World War I, guarding rail lines and the Scheldt bridge
