California Gold Country┃ Newcastle, Gem of the Foothills

Newcastle – Gem of the Foothills, one of California’s most compelling Gold Rush towns. Founded as an important stop on the original transcontinental railroad, Newcastle became a center of the nation’s fruit industry. The small town of Newcastle located in the foothills boasts of beautiful rolling hills, orchards, streams and horse properties. Although Newcastle is located in the heart of the Gold Country, it is known for the vast amounts of fruit produced. Mandarins are the 20th century crop.

Start the ride in Virginiatown, a State Registered Landmark founded in June 1859, it was commonly called "Virginia". Over 2000 miners worked rich deposits.

Continue the ride through Gold Hill, and as Matthew Fleming Stephenson used to say during those days, "There's gold in them thar hills". 😂

End the ride in Newcastle.
